Batman will not appear in Fox's 'Gotham' series

Richard Shotwell, InvisionBenjamin McKenzie stars as Detective James Gordon on 'Gotham'

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Yes, the new Fox series "Gotham" will feature a young Bruce Wayne, but don't expect him to turn into the caped crusader.

Creator Bruno Heller told journalists Sunday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that "If there is a superhero on this show, it's Gotham."

"To me, heroes are more interesting than superheroes," he said, "because the difference is superheroes do the impossible, and drama is really about the physically possible. This is about people and people trying to overcome real problems versus trying to learn how to fly."

"Gotham" stars Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon. Heller says he's "the moral lynchpin of the show. If you look at the mythology, he's the guy that creates Batman or gives Batman permission to exist in that world."

Richard Shotwell, InvisionRobin Lord Taylor is slated to appear as the Penguin on 'Gotham'

We also meet the future Penguin, future Riddler, future Catwoman and future Joker.

There's a new villain called Fish Mooney, played by Jada Pinkett Smith. The possibility she will evolve into another character from the story's mythology was teased at Sunday's panel.

Season one, says Heller, will focus on the rise of the Penguin, played by Robin Lord Taylor, and his power struggle with Fish Mooney.
"Gotham" is scheduled to premiere Sept. 22 on Fox.

Angelina Jolie gives voice to Palestinian refugees in Jordan:

While on a private trip to Jordan last week, UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie spent an afternoon at the refugee camp at Ruweished, near Jordan's eastern border with Iraq that houses more than 500 refugees from Iraq, mostly Palestinians. During her visit, Jolie thanked Jordan for providing sanctuary to people who left Iraq, and UNHCR is similarly grateful for the hospitality Jordan has long provided refugees.

He tweeted that palestine should be free.

EUROPEAN FOOTBALLERS SUPPORT PALESTINE:

We, as European football players, express our solidarity with the people of Gaza who are living under siege and denied basic human dignity and freedom. The latest Israeli bombardment of Gaza, resulting in the death of over a hundred civilians, was yet another stain on the world's conscience.

Zayn Malik forgot where he was..

Last night Zayn got a little confused with where he was and started the night saying "Hello Manchester" even though he was in Edinburgh. Shortly afterwards his incorrect phrase became a trending topic on Twitter — talk about embarrassing

Katy Perry was caught lip-syncing..

Katy suffered a seriously humiliating moment at the NRJ Music Awards last year when her music had a 15 second delay from what she was hearing in her ear piece. She was so blatantly lip-syncing that the host of the show asked her to start again.

Louis Tomlinson forgot the lyrics..

Louis totally spaced on the lyrics ogf his song  while performing on stage. Luckily, the singer eventually remembered some of them.

Demi Lovato pulled out her hair extensions..

During one of Demi's dance moves, her fingers got tangled in her hair she pulled out some of her weave.

Find Out Your Fave Stars' Most Shocking Beauty Confessions

Find Out Your Fave Stars' Most Shocking Beauty Confessions

We always just assume that our fave celebs have totally glam hair and makeup routines, and that's mostly because they always seem to look flawless in every pic. So you can imagine our surprise when we found out that some of the girls of Little Mix actually sleep with their makeup on (yuck!) and other celebs like Taylor Swift and Victoria Justice have discovered totally random and strange makeup uses!

Jesy Nelson of Little Mix explained that she and her bandmates sleep in their makeup! "Jade and me are a bit dirty," Jesy said. "If we have our make-up done by make-up artists we're like: 'We're not wasting this!' I always take my foundation off but I keep my eye make-up on."

Did you really sleep in that eye makeup, Jade Thirlwall?

Taylor Swift admitted that in a pinch, she used permanent marker to create her signature cat eye look! “I was on a plane to Japan about two years ago and I had no makeup with me, so I went into the bathroom and I used a Sharpie to line my eyes," Taylor said. "From that point on I started using liquid liner because I realized it was obviously pretty easy for me to do! I definitely don’t recommend drawing on your eyes with a Sharpie though.”

When Miley Cyrus got a particularly large pimple, she taped a floral butterfly toy to her face to hide it! Well, that definitely created a distraction!

Shailene Woodley revealed that she only washes her hair once a month! “I basically have horse hair. It’s so low-maintenance," she said. "The less I put in it, the better. I only shampoo it like once a month—the oilier, the better.”

There's An Incredible Meteor Shower Happening This Week

There's An Incredible Meteor Shower Happening This Week

Jessica Orwig
Business Insider

November is the time of year to watch one of the most brilliant meteor showers of the year: the Leonid meteor shower, also known as the Leonids.
The Leonids became famous during the 17th century for their impressive show of shooting stars. In 1833, for example, the most stunning part of the meteor shower displayed up to 100 thousand meteor per hour.

This year's Leonid meteor shower will not be as spectacular as the one in 1833, but reports suggest that it will still be a site worth seeing. Also, the Leonids are one of the last meteor showers of the year. The Geminids meteor shower will follow in December.
The best time to see the Leonids this year will be Nov. 17 and 18 between the hours of midnight and dawn. During those hours, observers can expect to see about 15 meteors per hour, or about one every 4 minutes. The best way to see a meteor shower is to get far away from city lights where you can clearly see the stars.

To view the Leonids, astronomers suggest that viewers look at the part of the sky between the East horizon and the point right above to view the Leonids.
Below is a map from AccuWeather indicating where in the US that the weather is expected to provide clear skies for the best viewing.

When Earth passes through the tail of comet Tempel-Tuttle, the dust and debris the comet leaves behind is swept up by Earth's gravity. As a result, the debris strikes the Earth's atmosphere at incredible speeds — for the Leonids it's about 44 miles per second.

At these speeds, the debris of the comet and the molecules in Earth's atmosphere rub against each other creating tremendous friction. It's this friction that generates heat and light that we then see as a "shooting star".

Each meteor shower is named for the constellation from which the falling meteors appear to emerge. The Leonids are named for the constellation Leo, which is Latin for lion.
If you're not in a good place to view the Leonids, you can still watch the show because the live online observatory, Slooh, will be streaming the event live (feed below) starting tomorrow, Monday, at 8 pm EST (5 pm PST).

Dakota Fanning Explains Why She Doesn't Use Social Media

Dakota Fanning Explains Why She Doesn't Use Social Media
We love when stars are active on social media because we get more glimpses into their everyday lives, but we also have respect those stars who have decided to avoid it all together! Dakota Fanningrecently explained why she doesn't have Facebook or Twitter, and we totally understand her reasoning.
Speaking with NY Daily News, Dakota said, "Yeah, I don't have a Twitter, Facebook or anything - and I'm perfectly happy with that. Obviously lots of people do, but sometimes I think you can become engrossed in that world as the real world passes you by. People on their phones all the time is a pet peeve of mine in real life."
Dakota definitely has a point. While it's fun to be active on sites like Instagram, it's important to remember that the real world is more exciting and important!

Labor Day Weekend Stargazing: See Moon, Mars and Saturn Meet Up

Labor Day Weekend Stargazing: See Moon, Mars and Saturn Meet Up

by Joe Rao, SPACE.com Skywatching Columnist

Look up this Labor Day weekend to see a lovely celestial tableau in the southwestern part of the evening sky.
About an hour after sunset on Sunday (Aug. 31), skywatchers should be able to see three cosmic bodies gathered together for the final days of summer, if weather permits. Intrepid observers will immediately notice the moon, appearing as a wide crescent phase. Two bright "stars" will also appear, flanking the moon. One will shine with a yellowish-white tint off to the satellite's right and another shining with a yellow-orange color below and a bit to the moon's left.

The yellowish-white object to the moon's right is the planet Saturn, while the one below and slightly to the moon's left is Mars. [Best Stargazing Events of September (Sky Maps)]
In April, Mars was 57.6 million miles (92.7 million kilometers) away from Earth, the Red Planet's closest pass with Earth for the year. At that time, Mars' brightness rivaled that of the star Sirius (the brightest star in the sky). Now, however, Mars has receded to a distance of 127 million miles (204 million km) and shines only about one-seventh as bright as it did in April. Still is a conspicuous object, however, Mars ranks among the top 10 brightest stars. But as Earth continues to move away from the Red Planet, Mars will gradually fade.

The other planet joining the moon, Saturn, is famous for its spectacular ring system, and if you have a telescope then Sunday might just be your night to spot the rings. Use the moon as a benchmark. Just point your telescope to that bright, starlike object just off to the right of the moon, and there you will find the ringed beauty. Right now, the north face of the rings is spectacularly tilted 21.5 degrees toward Earth.
You'll need an eyepiece magnifying at least 30-power to easily discern the rings. If you have a 3-inch (7.6 centimeters) telescope, your best view will be using 75-power; with a 6-inch (15 cm) telescope, use 150-power, and with a 10-inch (25 cm), use 250-power.

Don't bother pointing a telescope toward Mars, however. July was the last month that the Red Planet showed more than a few traces of surface features in medium-size telescopes on good nights. Now, even in moderately large scopes, the planet appears as just a tiny, featureless dot of yellow-orange light.
The moon is always a wonderful sight to see through binoculars and telescopes. Scan especially along the line separating dark and light (the terminator) to catch a view of shadowed craters and mountains appearing in high relief.

Apple’s iWatch Could Be The Next Big Sports Fashion Accessory:

Apple’s iWatch Could Be The Next Big Sports Fashion Accessory:

Sports sells gatorade, and sports sells sneakers, and sports sells clothing and hats and TV trays and bottle openers and anything that has enough surface area to hold a logo. But can sports sell the concept of the smartwatch? That’s what Apple might find out beginning in October, the rumored launch date of the iWatch, according to a new report from 9to5Mac. The blog’s sources say Apple is working with professional athletes to test the fitness tracking features of the upcoming device, and it’s only logical that if they’re helping inform product design, Apple should tap them for promotion, too.

The stars working with Apple include Kobe Bryant, Dustin Brown of the LA Kings, and other unnamed stars from top U.S. pro sports organizations. 9to5Mac also says that the iWatch is being developed as a fashion piece, to ship in two different designs, with an announcement in October and a ship date soon after. The report echoes one earlier today from the Wall Street Journal, which said it would include fitness tracking and be unveiled in October, too.

Building wearables so far has proven a challenge, at least in terms of making something that sells with the kind of volume that makes them worthwhile for a company like Apple. The top-selling smartwatches to date are the Samsung Gear line, and 2 million total smartwatch devices were sold last year according to Strategy Analytics, of which 1.2 million were Android powered. Apple, by contrast, is shooting for first year sales of between 50 and 60 million units for its device alone, according to reports from media outlets including WSJ and Reuters.

To sell the devices, turning to the age-old marketing machine that is professional sports is a logical path. Apple is said to be packing a heap of sensors into this device (10 to be exact) and working with Nike on the fitness features. Traditionally, if you create something that has a ‘performance’ or activity angle, turning to pro athletes for a marketing push delivers huge dividends – Gatorade, and every other sports drink on the market, likely wouldn’t exist without the influence of celebrity endorsements.

Apple hasn’t leaned too heavily on the celebrity angle for promoting its past products, at least not directly. Instead, it has used a comprehensive media strategy of helping Apple products find their way naturally into films, TV shows and celebrity pockets, along with a few select endorsements via television ads and media spots. But it has acquired a company recently that could help with this kind of market positioning: Beats.
Beats doesn’t really make sports accessories – but you’d be forgiven for thinking they do. Their advertising campaign around the World Cup is one example of how well they’ve been able to tie their headphones to athletes and athletics.

Nevermind the fact that Beats on- and over-ear headphones are pretty much the opposite of what you want on your head while you’re running five miles or training for a triathlon. They share the same basic design as earmuffs, which are made to keep heat in your head. True, Beats makes wireless earbuds, too with the Powerbeats line but they’ve managed to give the whole brand sports cache.

There is no evidence that a smartwatch will pack people into stores, Apple-made or not. But there’s plenty of evidence to suggest an Apple-built sports and fitness/fashion accessory will sell and sell well. Apple wouldn’t be the only company trying to use fashion as a selling point for wearables, but it might be the one with the best angle yet.

Brad Pitt Attacked

"Brad Pitt attacked at 'Maleficent' premiere"

LOS ANGELES — A man was jailed on suspicion of battery after rushing up and touching Brad Pitt on the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of the movie "Maleficent," witnesses and police said, though Pitt was apparently unhurt and soon resumed signing autographs.

Witnesses saw the man from the fan area jump over a barrier onto the red carpet at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood and rush at Pitt, touching him briefly before security guards wrestled him back across the barrier.
The man was led away in handcuffs and arrested on suspicion of battery, said Los Angeles police spokeswoman Nuria Venegas, who did not know the suspect's name. She could only confirm that he made contact with Pitt, and could not classify it any further.

Pitt kept greeting fans and walked into the theater.
Pitt's longtime partner Angelina Jolie stars in "Maleficent," Disney's new live action spin on its animated classic "Sleeping Beauty."
Before the incident, Jolie told The Associated Press that the El Capitan is like a local theater for herself, Pitt and their kids, who usually don't attend her premieres but did Wednesday night.
"Well, oddly, we usually go to the El Capitan, that's where we take the kids. That's the closest theater to us," Jolie said. "This is the first time they were able to come to mommy's premiere."
The man got to Pitt despite security that was heavy for a movie premiere, with guards keeping a large gap between the stars and the crowd.
